Hospital Financial Assistance
(Charity Care)
Nonprofit hospitals in Oklahoma are required to offer financial assistance, sometimes called charity care, for medically necessary services, even if you are employed full-time. This may cover surgery, hospital fees, imaging, and sometimes anesthesia.

Apply for SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid)
You may qualify through disability or medically needy pathways, even if you are working. Loss of function or nerve involvement strengthens eligibility. Appeals are common and often successful.
5
Cash Pay & Payment Plans
Some surgeons and outpatient centers offer bundled self-pay pricing and payment plans. Ask if rates include surgeon, facility and anesthesia.
6
Indian Health Services
The Indian tribes have medical facilities all over the state of Oklahoma. These facilities offer free services to any Indian Tribe Member as long as they have a roll number.
If you do not have a roll number, please reach out to your tribe and register. Once you are registered with your tribe, you will receive a roll number.

Teching Hospitals & Academic Programs
Academic hospitals such as OU Health and Integris have more flexibility for uninsured patients, particularly for complex or function-limiting conditions.
4
Employer Insurance Options
Ask your employer about special or hardship enrollment due to medical necessity. Even higher paycheck deductions may be less costly than self-pay surgery.
6
Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation
This agency helps people maintain employment when medical conditions threaten work ability.

Optional Call Script to use:
"Hi, I was scheduled for medically necessary surgery that was canceled due to facility requirements. I am uninsured and have documented medical findings affecting my ability to function. I need to apply for financial assistance or charity care.
Can you tell me how to start?
*** Needing help navigating care is not a failure. Oklahoma has coverage gaps, and many working people fall into them.***
